Meeting Room Captain II


 Under the direction of a front line manager, the Meeting Room Captain II is responsible for the preparation of rooms for meetings and conferences for on-campus and off campus facilities. Specifically, the Meeting Room Captain is responsible for the set-up of audio and video equipment; ensuring that the meeting room is clean and that the table and chair set-up meets client needs; and troubleshooting client problems as they arise. Problems can include complaints regarding heating, ventilation, lighting, room configuration, room cleanliness, audio-visual requirements, parking, program materials, and catering. In addition, the Meeting Room Captain provides training to other members of the staff and prepares event reports. The Meeting Room Captain may be assigned responsibility for ensuring compliance with safety, fire, and University regulations.

Required/Preferred

Ability to read, understand, and speak English sufficient to determine and carry out job duties.

Required

Skill in interacting effectively with guests, team members and managers, and other departments in a high volume public contact setting using positive body language, direct eye contact, active listening, and problem solving techniques.

Required

Knowledgeable of a wide range of basic audio visual equipment (overhead and slide projectors, televisions, video and tape cassette recorders, DVD players, speakers, microphones, and mixers) as well as the difference between the same piece of equipment by a different manufacturers.

Ability to work independently and to trouble-shoot basic audio visual technical difficulties.

Ability to interact in a team based environment.

Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating work load.

Skill in adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions sufficient to properly configure room sets.

Ability to stand, climb, stoop, push, and crouch for extended periods of time as required to complete job duties.

Ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to fifty pounds such as tables, chairs, audio visual equipment, dance floors, and stages.

Ability to work a rigorous eight hour day including the occasional need to carry items weighing up to 100 pounds for a short distance.

Knowledge of the departmental policies and procedures as they apply to sanitation and safety.

Can be trained

Skill in performing with frequent interruptions and/or distractions while exhibiting a pleasant demeanor.

Skill in working independently and following through in assignments with minimal direction.

Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
